Marine Assurance Advisor in Texas USA


As the Marine Assurance Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting ConocoPhillips Business Units marine operations and project activities to ensure prudent management of marine risk. This includes identifying risks, developing cost efficient mitigation measures and communicating the results to appropriate partners, and leading the effective implementation of the same.

Your Responsibilities May Include

  • Provide support as a marine SME to ConocoPhillips business units for upstream and downstream marine operations and projects to ensure alignment to corporate standards and industry standard practices
  • Collaborate with regional Marine Assurance Leads to ensure effective and timely marine support to the business units
  • Act as the Marine Assurance focal point for marine risk management support to business unit marine operations
  • Maintain routine communication with business unit marine teams to stay ahead of upcoming work and recent marine issues or challenges to ensure early engagement with Marine Assurance
  • Assist business units with development and implementation of Corrective Active Plans resulting from marine near misses / incidents or audits
  • Represent ConocoPhillips interests in marine forums and industry groups promoting continuous improvement to marine standards and industry best practices
  • Handle the Marine Terminal Assurance program in alignment with the Marine Risk Management Standard supporting both ConocoPhillips owned and operated terminals and third-party terminals utilized by Company
  • Develop working relationships with port authorities, terminals, and port users in areas where ConocoPhillips has interest in marine terminal assets. Leverage these relationships to assist in improving operational safety by following industry guidance set by the OCIMF
  • Perform suitability assessments on third party vessel operators and marine terminals in following industry recognized OCIMF framework to support the needs of the business
  • Act as a backup to regional Marine Assurance Leads to cover global vetting requirements on an as needed basis for tankers, terminals, offshore support vessels, inland barges, and any other vessels utilized in ConocoPhillips business
  • Collaborate with partners to identify and implement appropriate solutions to sophisticated marine risk related manners
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Maritime related field, or foreign equivalent
  • Valid/current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • 10+ years of seagoing experience or equivalent shoreside marine ops / engineering / terminals / assurance experience within the maritime industry
  • 3+ years of Marine background with upstream oil & gas experience
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 25% of the time on a yearly basis
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to be on call


  • Advanced understanding of industry standard methodologies as defined by OCIMF, SIGGTTO and PIANC
  • Ability to take a stand on issues and is a strong advocate for change
