Marine Training Superintendent

Job Summary

  • Responsible for the delivery of assigned training courses as per Company’s Training Matrix.
  • Attend (including sailing with ship as necessary) vessels from time to time to provide Hands-on training to the crew
  • Attend (including sailing with ship as necessary) vessels from time to time to monitor rectification of ongoing defects and ensure the ships condition and maintenance standards adhere to organisation procedures liaising with Technical & QHSE department
  • Attend (including sailing with ship as necessary) vessels from time to time for the purpose of preparing vessels for PSC inspections and Rightship inspections
  • Responsible for the delivery, update and training in the company Safety Management System for sea-staff prior to engagement in sea going duties.
  • Carry out shipboard and shore-based training of officers and crew in matters pertaining to Bulk Carrier operations and other matters as deemed appropriate from time to time.
  • Supervision of local Cadets and Trainee ratings including local technical and career advice.
  • Planning and provision of appropriate sea-going assignments for Cadets and trainee ratings.
  • Interviewing crew for possible promotions from ratings to Officer level.
  • Mentoring process for crew promotion
  • Responsible for the implementation of Online Navigation Simulator Assessment Program
  • Assessor for ONSAP Training, CES Test, COLREG Test and TOLAS

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee training and development of seafarers before joining their assigned vessel as well as Onboard Training of sea staff
  • Assess seafarer's needs for training and getting them implemented.
  • Align training with the organization's goals
  • Create and manage training budgets
  • Develop and implement training programs
  • Develop individual training plans in coordination with HQ for Seafarers in hardware set up and applications which are used onboard vessel
  • Conduct navigational briefing for departing senior and junior deck officers
  • Coordinate, propose and monitoring of fresh cadets/graduates under the cadetship program on their plan embarkation including promotion
  • Coordinate, propose and monitoring of University of STIP cadets/graduates under the cadetship program on their plan embarkation including promotion
  • Regular and constant communications thru email to concerned parties for matters on training.
  • Check and monitor mentoring files submitted by officers due for promotion
  • Implement and carry out training webinar via Zoom application basis on FML Training Matrix
  • Conduct QMS briefing for foreign crew as deemed necessary
  • PDOS Checklist orientation for dispatch crew and officers
  • Confirm monthly attendance thru signing of attendance sheet and financial report
  • Monitors timely, smooth, and successful crew changes operation in liaison with manning agency
  • Planning of the crew changes of all assigned vessels in liaison with manning agents
  • Communication with principals and vessels on the planned crew changes
  • Communication with various department for the approval of the planned crew changes if necessary
  • Coordination with recruitment section for crew requirements if necessary
  • Establishment of crew availability for pooling requirement
  • Crew Performance Management / Crew Debriefing
  • Evaluation and verification of seafarer’s documents
  • Progress monitoring of completion of seafarer’s documents and follow up of required documents, including renewal of trainings
  • Briefing of joining seafarers regarding travel itineraries and related matters and dispatch
  • Updates the Embarkation and Disembarkation details in the concerned Principal’s crew system
  • Updates movements in the principal’s crew system
  • Responsible for monitoring the withdrawal of seafarers’ documents for the assigned crew vessels

Skills

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Marine Engineering/ Navigation/Internationally recognized shipping degree/qualification
  • Hold MEO Class 1 Certificate of competency or Certificate of Competency II/2 (for Master/Chief Officer) or Certificate of Competency III/2 (for Chief Engineer/Second Engineer) under STCW Code
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as Chief Engineer/Second Engineer or Master/Chief Officer on Dry/Tanker/Gas in the relevant type of vessel being recruited for e.g. Dry Cargo, Oil, Chemical or Gas, etc. Of this a minimum sailing experience of 1 year as Chief Engineer/Master

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Classifications Society procedures and regulations is desirable
  • Should have prior people management experience
  • Proven track record in intermediate and special dry dockings, ship repair, mobilizations and in-water repairs
  • IT literate and computer savvy
  • Business Administration qualifications will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in BAHASA language (Indonesian language) will be an added advantage
