Technical Superintendent

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice to management on the condition of the fleet and any matter likely to affect the availability of any vessel in the fleet
  • Assist with the maintenance and crew utilisation of computer-based planned maintenance and procurement systems
  • Provide support in the preparation of dry-docking specifications and budgets, maintenance and repair budgets, and overall monitoring of expenditure
  • Consult with management to plan maintenance schedules, crew requirements and work programs
  • Monitor and coordinate ongoing statutory requirements for surveys and audits of all vessels
  • Inventory control of stores and spare parts, including pick-up and delivery from local suppliers and service contractors
  • Liaise with management to coordinate repair work, safety inspections and supply of new plant and equipment with production schedules
Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of engineering, with a relevant maritime or trade qualification
  • Experience supervising a team of engineers and coordinating external service contractors to provide technical solutions
  • An understanding of various mechanical equipment and systems including diesel engines, power generation, dynamic positioning, tug propulsion systems and hydraulics
  • Experience liaising with classification societies and statutory bodies on vessel certification & documentation compliance
  • A solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to perform root cause analysis to determine underlying problems
  • A strong degree of initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Competency in MS Office Suite and basic understanding of computer network hardware and system architecture
  • The flexibility to travel to Westernport as required to meet operational demands
