General cargo ship TURKESTAN suffered a fire in the engine room on Feb 8 in Caspian sea, while en route from Baku to Aktau. Funnel insulation cover was the source of the fire, according to the Master’s report. The fire was extinguished by sealing off the engine room and activating the CO2 firefighting system, but the ship was disabled. Tug responded, the ship was towed back to Baku, she’s to undergo repairs. No injures reported.
